Oki, Danit'ada, Âba wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Erin Woods Families,

I am honored and excited to be joining the Erin Woods community.  I have heard fantastic things about the students, staff, and parent community and I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

I have been working in education for almost 20 years and have had the privilege to work in both Alberta and British Columbia’s educational systems. Over the course of my career, I have worked in schools spanning Kindergarten through grade 12 and I feel I have a strong understanding of the continuum of learning and why Kindergarten to grade 6 is such an important time in a child’s learning journey.

Prior to my current role at Jack James, I worked in a variety of school settings and find the most enjoyment when I am able to create collaborative learning opportunities for students that include hands on learning and the natural environment.  My core beliefs are centered in student well-being and I believe strongly in the importance of building relationships, creating spaces where students feel like they belong and where students have a voice in their learning.

As someone who loves the outdoors, my spare time often includes our mountains, lakes and those activities that take me outside. My daughter and I often have adventures in those spaces with our mini-Australian Shepherd, Winston. One of my favourite places to visit is the Bow Valley where mountains, meadows and water remind me of how lucky I am to live so close to such beautiful lands.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and as I get to know the everyone over the next few weeks, I extend an invitation to the Erin Woods community to stop by and say “hello”, as my door is always open.

Sincerely,

Ms. Marla Paxton
